Sacramento Street Business District Improvements Follow Up

Hi Neighbors!

Today, Tania and I (Sofia) had the pleasure of meeting with several staff members from the City to follow up on the Sacramento Street Business District improvements discussion that was started at our April meeting.

Our main takeaway is that there will be a community meeting in September to bring together all the Sacramento Street stakeholders (including neighbors!). This will be lead by Elizabeth Garcia, from the Economic Development office at the City. It will be an opportunity for all stakeholders to express their dreams for and frustrations with Sacramento Street, and from there for Elizabeth to gather the appropriate resources to address those dreams and frustrations.

A brief summary of today’s meeting is below.

CalJulia Meeting April 2013

I want to give a hearty thank you to everyone who came out last night. We had a wonderful meeting, we covered a lot of ground, and I look forward to taking the next steps as a group. Before I give a (very) brief recap of the meeting, there are a few people who deserve a little extra gratitude:

MVMNT Studio & Seth Martinez – a HUGE thank you to Seth for rearranging their class schedule to accommodate our meeting!  Go check out their space, try a class, and keep your eyes peeled for their next offerings (rumor has it, kids classes will be coming this summer!).

Berkeley Project 3/9

What a great workday on Saturday! Below is a note from the Berkeley Project coordinator and a picture of the crew that came out. Thanks to everyone who helped out, and in particular, thanks to Tania for coordinating!

The students did a wonderful job picking up litter and working on the planter strips (aka "hell strips"). About 8 or 9 strips got some intensive attention, with soil loosening, weeding, mulching, and/or planting. If your strip could use some love, don’t be shy! Let Tania know and she’ll make it happen at the next work day in the fall.

Thanks to everyone who came out, and in particular thanks to Tania for organizing and hosting the Berkeley Project student volunteers, and to Kim & Duff for hosting the block party. Continue reading
